Using the School Bus

Upon enrolment you will be informed if you live within our school bus zone and therefore entitled to use the bus. The parents of children who do not live within zone can apply to use the school bus through the Mahurangi Transport Network Group. Being able to use the bus if you are not in zone is not guaranteed on application to the Network Group. Transporting your children to school everyday needs to be a careful consideration on enrolment to our school. This is reviewed annually and can incur a termly cost of $100 per child.

If your child is eligible, upon enrolment, you will be given a Code of Conduct for using the bus.

We continue to live our school values whilst travelling on the bus. If children fail to follow the Code of Conduct, the school will follow the procedure as set out below:

  • First Offence:

The initial contact with parents will be by telephone followed by a formal letter outlining the situation and advising that a future breach of rules will result in the child not being allowed to use the bus for two school days. This letter will also include a copy of the bus code of conduct. This is to give parents the opportunity to sort the issue out for themselves.

  • Second Offence:

The initial contact with parents will again be by telephone followed by the formal letter outlining the situation. Parents will be required to make alternative transport arrangements for two school days. These days will be decided by staff in consultation with parents during the telephone conference. Parents will again be requested to take suitable measures to ensure that the inappropriate behaviour is corrected as the next offence will mean the child will be removed from the bus for 10 school days.

  • Third Offence:

After a phone call to parents a letter detailing the offence and the dates that the child will not be allowed to use the bus (10 school days) will be sent. The dates will be decided by staff in consultation with parents. Parents will be informed that the next occurrence of misbehaviour will result in the child being removed from the bus for six school weeks. Parents will again be requested to take suitable measures to ensure that the inappropriate behaviour is corrected.
