We recognise the successes of our children outside of the classroom. We are proud of our sporting and cultural achievements at Kaipara Flats Primary School .

Students are encouraged to participate in sporting and cultural activities offered and venture out of the classroom regularly to do so. At Kaipara Flats School, our view is that sports are all about games – and games should be fun! Our school vision, Succeeding Together, means that we value and encourage success in all areas. We look at the value in giving things a go. We love children who show initiative.

Sports:

We like to encourage our children to play multiple sports and feel that early sports specialization isn’t always the best route forward. A well-rounded sports experience fosters sportsmanship, fitness and is a great way to teach our children to give things a go. We provide the opportunity for all pupils to play at the best and most appropriate level for themselves. This may be at inter-house, inter-school, county or at national level.

Our sports equipment and facilities, our great connection to local sports clubs provide endless opportunities for self-development and community connection. Children at our school always punch above their weight at inter-school competitions because of the great attitude we foster throughout their time at our school.

Our Kapa Haka group is run by Sandy Meharry. Kapa haka is offered to all Years 3 to 6 students. Students learn basic te reo and tikanga, karakia, and range of action songs. Practice is held each Friday at 9:15am. Children in Years 0-2 take part in weekly lessons, learning waiata.

Performances throughout the year include school assemblies, events at school, to welcome guests and at our end of year Prize Giving.

Musical Instruments:

We have one specialist teacher that come to school. We are fortunate to have Stephen Fulford teaching drums, ukulele and guitar. If you would like your child to take lessons at school, please ask at school for his contact details.
